To A Life of Love

What do we really know about love?

This is the story of how Avida Love Photography found it's name and the mission behind the business. It's a personal narrative and creation story.

I'm a romantic.  I believe in true love and love being true.  I believe in the power of Love and the choice of loving.  I have always talked a lot about the L-word and thought about it even more.  If I didn't, I wouldn't have found myself driving 16 hours home from Raleigh while in a long-distance relationship.  Fortunately on that drive I had plenty of time to think about the question that was burning in my mind.  I had already realized that I was going to make photography my full time business but I knew it needed the right name.  How to find the perfect name for my business? I dove into the core of why I was doing photography, what I wanted to do in my life and what was the most important goal I held dear.  The answer as you may have guessed, is love.  I don't think I'm alone in recognizing that love is a force of attraction and motivation beyond our greatest imagination.

I realized in that car that I wanted a life as full as possible with love and loving.  From that realization it was simple, I had to devise a way to express my business as a celebration of filling life with love.  Avida (roughly translated: to life) makes the name like a toast or a cheer.  I actually shouted out loud when the name came to me.  It stuck from that moment forward.

It is a privilege to be able to choose to do what you love. We can all do it in different ways.  Doing what you love can range from cooking your family breakfast to performing on stage in front of millions of people.  The next part of the story is that I realized by focusing on what I loved, many things were transforming before my eyes and I felt the train of freedom approaching.  I knew I wanted to help others focus on what they loved whether it was their small business, their art, their children, the sport they played or the spouse they were marrying.  Our motto is now: FOCUS ON WHAT YOU LOVE.  It's written as a command but it's really an invitation!

Family is one of the things that people love the most.  My family lives all over the world and while we all do different things, all of them are creative.  My uncle Ted, for example, is what I would call a genius blues musician.  He writes, sings and plays his own songs on a stage that he built for himself.  Ted does what he loves every day and the result is...well I'll let you see for yourself.  I have included one of his love songs here.  I know it word for word and it always gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.

If you enjoy it please leave a comment for Ted to encourage him on his path to more love and more music.

What do you love?

How can you better focus on what you love today?

A life of love will be lived moment by moment.  This is what I know about loving. All I know about Love is flowing through my heart in constant motion and without definition.

Wishing you blessings,

Amy
